Pulsar Trail 3 LRF — Built For Serious Night Time Use

-

Thermal optics have moved far beyond niche predator-hunting tools. Today’s high-end rifle-mounted thermals blend long-range detection, integrated ranging, and ballistic intelligence into a single package and Pulsar’s Trail 3 LRF riflescope series is a strong example of that evolution.

Designed for hunters, land managers, and professional users who operate after dark, the Trail 3 LRF combines premium thermal imaging with a built-in laser rangefinder and onboard ballistic tools. The result is a purpose-built night-fighting optic that puts actionable data directly in the shooter’s field of view.

Trail 3 LRF: High-Resolution Thermal Imaging

At the heart of the Trail 3 LRF is a modern uncooled thermal sensor, offered in two configurations: a 640×480/12-micron sensor in the XR50 and a 384×288/17-micron sensor in the XQ50. Both deliver crisp imagery with sensitivity tuned for low-contrast environments, such as humid nights, fog, or dense brush. Detection ranges stretch out to roughly 2,300 meters with the XR50, giving users ample reach for long-range scanning and identification.

The optic features a Full HD 1920×1080 AMOLED display, providing sharp detail and strong contrast when it matters most. Pulsar also includes a round Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode that magnifies the reticle area while maintaining situational awareness in the surrounding field of view. A practical solution for precise shot placement without tunnel vision.

Built-In Features

One of the Trail 3 LRF’s defining features is its integrated laser rangefinder, capable of measuring targets out to 1,200 meters with meter-level accuracy. That data feeds directly into Pulsar’s ballistic ecosystem, which can display corrections based on user-entered ballistic profiles.

This is where the Trail 3 LRF differentiates itself from older thermal platforms. Instead of guessing holdovers in the dark, shooters can rely on real-time range data and ballistic calculations to make confident shots at distance.

Tank Tough

Thermal optics are often mounted on serious rifles, and Pulsar built the Trail 3 LRF accordingly. The monoblock magnesium housing and multipoint prism mounting system are designed to maintain zero under heavy recoil, with ratings up to 6,000 joules, enough for magnum-class cartridges.

The unit also carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance and is rated for operation from –25°C to +50°C. Whether it’s freezing nights or dusty summer hunts, the Trail 3 LRF is engineered for hard use.

Modern Connectivity

The Trail 3 LRF integrates Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for use with Pulsar’s Stream Vision 2 and Stream Vision Ballistics apps. Users can stream footage, update firmware, and store media in the cloud. A built-in 64GB recorder captures photos and video, including recoil-activated recording that automatically logs the moment of the shot.

Power comes from a quick-change rechargeable battery pack, delivering roughly 10–12 hours of runtime depending on configuration and conditions.

Trail 3 LRF for Serious After-Dark Work

The Pulsar Trail 3 LRF isn’t just another thermal scope, it’s a modern fire-control system built around thermal detection, ranging, and ballistic intelligence. For hunters and professionals who demand precision after sunset, the Trail 3 LRF represents a high-end, integrated approach to night-time shooting that keeps the shooter informed and on target when visibility disappears.
