Meet Springfield’s New Echelon 4.0C Comp

-

Springfield took everything that made the original Echelon a sleeper favorite and shrank it into a truly carry-friendly package — then added a comp that actually works. The Echelon 4.0C Comp keeps the Echelon’s smart ergonomics while trimming the footprint to a 4.0-inch barrel, compact frame, and an integral compensator that noticeably tames muzzle flip.

Echelon 4.0C Comp Features

What sets the 4.0C Comp apart is the way Springfield integrates performance features without turning the gun into a range toy. The compensated slide/barrel assembly uses a single top port to redirect gas and reduce rise. They’ve positioned the front sight behind the comp so your sight picture stays clean, not as an afterthought, but an intentional carry solution. Add the Variable Interface System (VIS) (Springfield’s patent-pending, pin-based direct mount that fits dozens of red dot footprints) and you’ve got an optic-ready compact that’s actually plug-n-play for today’s popular red-dots.

This is a real-world everyday concealed carry pistol with a 4.0″ hammer-forged, Melonite-coated barrel, 24 oz with a flush magazine (25 oz with the extended), 15-round flush and 18-round extended magazine options, and a 1.2″ grip width that balances concealability with control. Springfield’s machining, slide serrations, and tritium U-Dot front sight (with tactical rack U-notch rear) complete the package. MSRP lands around $765.

Lead Downrange

On the range the Echelon 4.0C Comp delivers what the spec sheet promises: flatter, faster strings and easier follow-ups. Athlon’s Fred Mastison called it “ridiculously flat shooting,” noting the comp encouraged faster, more confident splits without upsetting reliability or ergonomics. Trigger feel was consistent around 4.5 lbs on the sample, with a flat face and clean break, the kind of trigger you can shoot quickly without fighting it. Read Fred’s full review here.

Springfield didn’t ignore the little things. Adaptive Grip Texture gives a bite when you need purchase; deep front and rear serrations, an undercut trigger guard, and ambidextrous controls show this is designed by people who actually shoot and carry. The VIS recessed under the slide cover plate keeps the optic low without weird adapter plates or compromises.

Bottom Line

If you want a compact 9mm that behaves more like a full-size gun, thanks to an effective integral comp, solid ergonomics, and real optic compatibility, the Echelon 4.0C Comp is one of the best “carry but don’t sacrifice performance” bets on the market right now. It’s practical, polished, and engineered to help you shoot faster and more accurately when it counts.
