The SIG Sauer CROSS Sawtooth .308 Winchester with Proof Research’s carbon fiber barrel is a lightweight and ultra-portable bolt-action carbine with a bevy of modern features. In addition to its pièce de résistance, its carbon fiber barrel, the SIG Sauer CROSS Sawtooth also includes an M-LOK-compatible ultralight handguard (with a Swiss-ARCA section, no less), a pair of ambidextrous safeties, and feeds from industry-standard AICS-pattern magazines.

By default, the SIG Sauer CROSS Sawtooth includes an effective radial muzzle brake, and it’s also ready to accept any standard ⅝ x 24 TPI suppressor or suppressor mount. This makes it quite easy to add any .30 caliber can. It’s something I definitely want to do in the future and look forward to doing.

The Modern Scout
It’s not the first time I’ve written this, but this short-action 16-inch .308 Winchester would be a damn fine scout rifle if there ever was one. It completely fits the bill, even if SIG Sauer doesn’t necessarily market it as a scout rifle.
For starters, the CROSS Sawtooth is actually light in weight. Its adjustable folding stock cleanly hinges out of the way while also protecting the bolt knob.

It’s also 2026, and I contend that this novel bolt gun needs no iron sights or archaic LER scopes to be relevant today. After reviewing the Savage 110 Magpul Scout with this same EOTech VUDU 1-10 Daylight Bright LPVO, I re-mounted it on this CROSS Sawtooth. It’s a nice scope and felt like a natural fit for this handy little bolt gun.
Besides being first focal plane and providing a bright “red-dot” style sight-picture on 1x, this scope’s SR-5 reticle with its “lightweight” grid makes a lot of sense on a compact rifle meant to engage targets from 0 to 500 yards.

In fact, I threw some quick-and-dirty DOPE (2.6-inch sight height, 168-gr SMK and MV at around 2460 FPS, assuming standard temperature and pressure), and the 500-yard “come up” is approximately 3.8 mils. Theoretical DOPE aside, holding 4 mils and minding the wind appropriately isn’t unreasonable. There’s no need to dial, either.
With that Reptilia AUS mount, mounting an auxiliary red-dot on top or on the side isn’t out of the question either.
The SIG Sauer CROSS Sawtooth bolt-action carbine is one of those guns that grows on me more and more as time passes.
