There’s always a king of the mountain, and when speaking of packs, the Tasmanian Tiger TT Base Pack 60 takes that top spot. This massive, hardcore backpack is everything you need in a tactical-centric carry-all. From its voluminous interior to its durable materials and construction, to its distinct Multicam pattern, this beast is ready for action. Has Tasmanian Tiger truly created the ultimate long-range aid? With this behemoth strapped over my shoulders, I was about to find out firsthand.
Once filled, many backpacks exhibit a hearty profile. The TT Base Pack 60 is different. This pack is impressive in its out-of-the-box, empty state. Without even removing the plastic wrap around it, I was blown away by its size, weight, and overall presence.
Placed on the ground in a standing position, this pack was just about four feet tall (with its extension engaged) and nearly thirty inches wide. Its prominent hip belt, thick shoulder straps, and multiple zippers and straps were all standouts upon first viewing.

The Base Pack 60’s size specs state 60 to 75 liters of interior space, and looking at this beast, I can wholeheartedly believe that. At seven pounds in weight without a single item added yet, it proves just how colossal this pack truly is.

It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between features and construction, as the Base Pack 60 fuses these two categories almost seamlessly. However, I’m game to give it my best attempt.
The unit offers the V2 Plus carrying System. This system allows for size adjustments, as well as greater emphasis on comfort and versatility. The pack utilizes a large front-opening feature, which makes access to gear simple. Its adjustable lid increases interior space by fifteen liters.
The hip belt is removable and can be used as a separate Warrior belt. It offers front and side MOLLE attachment panels. Additionally, the chest belt, hip belt, and shoulder straps are all fully adjustable. It’s also hydration compatible, features several gear loops, and numerous compression straps.

It’s a given that a pack this large that’s expected to perform in rugged conditions needs to be ultra-tough, and the TT Base Pack 60 doesn’t disappoint. 500 den CORDURA material makes up this pack’s body. YKK zippers throughout the pack exude both durability and ease of use. Finally, Woojin Plastic created the release buckles, zipper pulls, and tension locks throughout the unit.
WJ is an industry leader in both quality and innovative hardware design. Aside from the top-tier contributors, the seams and stitching were flawless, without fraying or loose threads. Though some people may consider compression straps a feature, they are strategically positioned to secure the load and improve the integrity of the unit as a whole.

Carrying This Beast
Sitting on the floor is one thing, carrying this immense pack is another. I immediately experienced that putting on this backpack wasn’t just about slinging it over my shoulders like an ordinary school bookbag. This was more attuned to getting strapped into a harness or a sports car’s seat belt system.
Adjustability was the shining star of the TT Base Pack 60 when wearing it. The hip belt, the shoulder straps, and the sternum strap were all fine-tuned to my body proportions. This made the pack part of me, rather than something I was just hauling.
When filled, the pack was surprisingly balanced, even with its prominent vertical height. The lower back pad was a subtle but welcome addition. The cushioned portion absorbed impacts well as I trekked about.

Not for Casual Use
It’s very easy to understand why this pack is classified as a long-range use backpack. Everything about it is over-the-top in a very good way. Its heavy-duty construction and large, cavernous interior allow you to pack a lot for the long haul.
The Multicam version that I tested retails for $699.00, which may scare off a few people. But let me tell you this: you definitely get your money’s worth with this behemoth.
