“I will be a hunter’s nightmare.” That’s what an Ohio woman in blaze orange yelled before she fired a gun in a wooded neighborhood of Portage County. Her neighbor, legally hunting deer on his own property, recorded the confrontation before shedding his visibly-orange vest and running away from the shots to hide.
“She’s got obviously strong feelings about it,” Richard Page, Ohio hunter told WKYC. “But that doesn’t give her the right to come out and harass people that are out enjoying themselves.”
It is legal to hunt your own property in Ohio as long as it encompasses five acres or more. Ironically, Page’s neighbor was threatening him while standing on someone else’s property. It took Page two hours to find his way back home in the dark.
“She knows who we are,” Page said. “And she’s still shooting at us.”
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with assistance from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). ODNR reports the state’s whitetail deer population is substantial with more than 200,000 harvested statewide in 2022.

In addition to private property hunting in the state, Portage Park District also offers a new controlled archery hunt permitted through a lottery system. The park-specific hunt opened September 30 with one hunter per designated area.
