SAINT Victor 5.5″ 9mm PDW Review and Insights

-

The Springfield Saint has proven itself to be an exceptional platform. It is a well-designed and reliable rifle. With the recent upgrades to the Saint, this rifle went from great to excellent. Over time, Springfield has given us various models of the Saint, and today, it has continued that trend. Today, Springfield Armory has announced the launch of the new SAINT Victor 9mm PDW, designed to deliver rugged performance in an extremely compact yet hard-hitting package.

SAINT Victor 5.5″ 9mm PDW – New from Springfield

Combining an ultra-short 5.5″ barrel with the compact SB Tactical HBPDW collapsible brace, the result is a short and maneuverable platform ideal for tight spaces. Forged upper and lower receivers provide a rock-solid foundation, while the full-length top Picatinny rail offers ample room for optics and accessories. A direct blowback system provides time-tested reliability.

The adjustable SB Tactical HBPDW brace — fitted onto the PDW’s lower receiver extension — maintains an ultra-compact footprint while enhancing stability and control. The lightweight, low-profile assembly features three-position adjustability, allowing shooters to tailor the length for improved handling and maneuverability. Adjustments are made with an easy-to-engage lock/release button located on the left side of the HBPDW brace.

Durable Low-Glare Finish

Finished in Tungsten Gray Cerakote, the SAINT Victor PDW features a durable, low-glare finish that resists abrasion and corrosion, requiring minimal maintenance and offering high-temperature tolerance for long-lasting performance. Fitted onto the free-floated, M-Lok-compatible aluminum handguard is a low-profile hand stop that enhances control by providing a consistent forward index point for a support hand.

The 5.5” chrome-moly vanadium (CMV) barrel features a 1:10” twist, is Melonite coated for durability, and has 1/2×28 threading on the muzzle topped off with a highly effective SA Muzzle Drum. For the maximum in rugged reliability, the SAINT Victor 9mm PDW feeds from a Colt-pattern steel 32-round magazine. A B5 Systems Type 23 P-Grip, 45-degree “short-throw” ambidextrous safety, and nickel boron-coated flat trigger round out the package.

On the Range

Springfield was kind enough to send a gun out for me to test-drive, and I was quick to get set up at the range. Testing began with the standard stand-and-shoot at steel at various ranges. However, you and I both know that a sexy little shooter like this is calling for something a little more dynamic. In my mind, this is a solid personal defense weapon or truck gun.

I worked the new SAINT Victor 5.5″ 9mm PDW from both the collapsed and extended positions. The brace was easy to manage and was easily extended. This was a shining point with the gun because it allowed it to quickly move from a “stored” position to an extended “shooting” position. The trigger broke cleanly and had a noticeably quick reset.

Interestingly, the magazines were a standout point for me. They are metal old school colt style mags that have durability written all over them. There was zero hesitation to drop an empty mag on the ground. They were firm to load initially, but loosened up over time. While it may seem to be a trivial point, good mags matter.

At the end of the day, the SAINT Victor 5.5″ 9mm PDW proved to be an excellent performer. I would absolutely use this gun in my vehicle or in a home defense setting. It is compact, easy to maneuver, and has the excellent performance I have seen in previous SAINT rifles.
